The Dragon's Jewel
Old White Death
Arauthator is one of the oldest and fiercest white dragons in all of the North, presiding over a demesne stretching from Ruathym across the Spine of the World mountains all the way to the Great Glacier. Known colloquially as “Old White Death” for his ferocity and exceptional cunning in defeating dozens of rival dragons (including some of his own offspring), Arauthator is feared throughout the Sword Coast.
Arauthator was among the dozen or so dragons that attacked the Host Tower of the Arcane in Luskan because of Sammaster’s Rage of Dragons in 1373 DR. When part of the tower fell, Arauthator made off with a good deal of magical items, including a few powerful, priceless tomes. It was known among sages that Old White Death makes his home beneath Lonefang Mountain, but maintains several other minor lairs among the icebergs of the Sea of Moving Ice.
In 1484 DR Arauthator and his son Aurbangras allied with the orcs and drow forces that assaulted Luruar during the Darkening; he also was ridden by Tiago Baenre in the assault against Nesme. Arauthator’s mate is Arveiaturace. They had several offspring, including Aurbangras, before Arveiaturace was said to have gone mad.
