The Ring cleared out the disgusting harpy nest, rested for the whole day to recover their spells and their strength, then headed north to check out the platinum-ice castle dominating the island.
After a few hours they came upon a pair of hill giants who had been “fishing” among the farming lands 1000’ below the cloud cover and had collected a string of peasants, farmers, merchants, cows, wagons and others who they had dragged up into their cloud realm. The Ring slew the evil giants forthwith and rescued the commoners, who gratefully offered them a reward of 17sp. The commoners retreated to the harpies’ nest under the watchful eye of Dorn.
Exploring further the Ring came upon a titanic forest of sequoias and other massive redwoods towering 200’ or more into the sky, covered with diaphanous feather-like leaves and bored through with strange holes.
To the east a fight broke out between a cloud giant and a huge black dragon, with the giant retreating into the forest the party decided to follow suit. The battle sadly claimed Oracle – Soveliss’s owl scout – but no other injuries. Further exploration lead to the discovery of a giant fruit garden bordering the cyclopean castle, which was itself rotating in a “moat” of air at least 40’ and nigh-impossible to breach with any degree of certainty. Large beings patrolled the numerous towers of this citadel and the party decided to retreat for the time being.
Following the wounded giant, the party came upon a forest glade wherein a pair of stone giant druids were preparing a purplish mist in their cauldron amidst a ring of a dozen obelisks. The cloud giant spoke with his brethren but seemed at odds with them, and the party intervened on his side when combat broke out between the stone and cloud branches of this giantish race. Slaying the stone giants and shattering their broken marble bodies, the Ring parlayed with the cloud giant – Faerhog Stargazer by name and title – and despite his arrogance managed to entice him into an alliance against his older brother, Blagothkus, who Faerhog believes has been ensorcelled into aiding the evil Cult of the Dragon. Based on the information the younger brother imparted it seems Skyreach Castle has been taken over by the elusive Wyrmspeaker Rezmir and her dragon mistress Glazhael the Cloudchaser, an adult black dragon of great size and power.
